How are we different?

The mission of the RFIDba is not to compete with any standards or trade organizations, but to complement and collaborate with them and work together towards a common mission. The RFIDba is intended to expand ones thinking and push experimentation and pilots for pre-standard technology and applications. What distinguishes the RFIDba from other existing organizations includes:

Applications Research

The RFIDba is intended to work with early adopters who are pursuing new and future applications which have not yet captured the interest of standards organizations.

Create an organization where industry participants can discuss and share ideas on future applications, as a set of applications, with a composite of functional characteristics.

Create a vision shared with standards organizations of potential applications down the road, like item-level tagging, to minimize future problems in infrastructure cost and ease of compliance in the future.

Multi-Industry Global Collaboration

The RFIDba will bring government and educational leaders, standards organizations, and representatives of various vertical industry trade groups together from all parts of the world. Keeping in mind, that we all belong to a global economy and have the need to work as ONE cohesive group for mutual benefit.

The RFIDba puts an emphasis on cross fertilization from all industries creating a knowledge pool which can aid all industries as they deploy.

End-users and solution partners working together as one group. The RFIDba does not distinguish between the members, but allows the members themselves to decide how active they wish to be in the association.

Looking at RFID as a member of a greater technology family adds a third dimension to the developing RFID industry by pulling together the RFID practitioners from a wider set of industries.

Standards and Technology Neutral

The RFIDba is not a standards body. It however, does support all standards development organizations by giving RFID technology users and providers a forum to discuss applications of the technology which are still too immature to be the object of standardization efforts.

The RFIDba does not focus or promote any specific technology or RFID system, but the industry as a whole. While different areas may form committees around a certain technology, the RFIDba welcomes all of the RFID industry to participate and contribute to the associations’ development.
